Day 1:
Today I got oriented with the paper, and the day-to-day feel of what it's like to write and build the pages of a newspaper. For the majority of the day, I added events into the calendar section of the paper. I'm excited for the coming weeks!
Week 1:
This first week, I did things like build a crossword puzzle, and fill events into the calendar for the weekly paper. I made a breakout box for the calendar, meaning I explained a larger event in more detail to let the community know about the event. I also delivered papers on Thursday with my mentor, so i got to go into local businesses and restaurants to drop off papers.
Week 2:
Missy has given me the opportunity to do a story on Fort Lewis College being environmentally neutral by 2080. I'm excited to write this and explore this as a possible career opportunity! I went the the Strater Theater to attend a round table conference about Fort Lewis. I've taken a few quotes, but am going to meet with Rachel Landis up at the Fort to get the bigger picture.
Week 3:
Last week! For my last week, I sat down with Missy and went over my work for my "Going Green" project. I think news writing isn't for me. I didn't have nearly enough quotes to write with, so I made calls to get more quotes and ask specific questions. I wrote the rest of the story, but I don't think I'm much good at it. Overall, I'm grateful for this experience to narrow down what I think I want to do in the real workforce!
